English for Academic Purposes

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs are certificate programs delivered by postsecondary institutions. These programs focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing in preparation for college or university study. They are typically intensive programs that emphasize language and academic skills for speakers of English as a second/additional language. Writing and presenting for academic purposes are stressed, and nuanced grammar points are covered extensively. Some of these programs may contain a Business English component. Programs often target domestic and/or international students who need to enhance their English skills. Some courses may be available as online courses.

Postsecondary institutions may use the marks achieved in these programs to determine readiness for postsecondary study toward degree or diploma programs within that particular college or university. Check with the institution for further details with respect to entry testing and start dates.
